Olive Oil? Glycerine? Avocado Oil? Here's the Difference!

You might be tooling around our store thinking "oral suspension? Olive oil? What is glycerine? What's the difference between olive oil and avocado oil?" When you're shopping for oils, it's important to know what you want the oil to treat, what it's benefits are, and what the difference is. 

Glycerine

How is it made? 

Vegetable glycerin, or glycerol, is a clear, odorless liquid that is a byproduct of soap or biodiesel production. It's most often derived from palm, coconut, or soybean oil. It is totally naturally occurring during production of other products! Both palm and coconut oils are a natural triglyceride mixture. The triglycerides contain fatty acids, which bind with the oils during a process known as hydrolysis. During hydrolysis, oils are placed under extreme pressure, temperatures while in water. This process causes the fatty acids to separate from the glycerine, which are absorbed by the water. After the glycerin is absorbed by the water, it creates a syrup-like liquid.

Uses

Vegetable glycerin is used in a number of common, household applications like cosmetics, lotions, toothpaste, shampoo, and a can be used as a sweetener. Glycerine is a popular ingredient in lotions and shampoos because glycerine is absorbed into the skin and acts as a deep moisturizer.

How does it work with CBD? What is it used for? 

Due to the easily absorbed nature of vegetable glycerine, when combined with hemp, the glycerine binds with the cannabidiols in hemp. This makes it quick and easy for absorption into the skin, helping the cannabidiols reach the endocannabinoid receptors in the body more quickly. We recommend using glycerine for a variety of uses but in particular, if you struggle with anxiety, insomnia, stress related pain, or really any kind of stress! It is so easily and safely absorbed by the skin and body, it's perfect for a mild tasting oral suspension! 

 

Olive Oil 

What can I use olive oil for? 

Research shows that adding olive oil into your diet can drastically help with a number of functions, like: managing Type 2 Diabetes, managing inflammation, increasing your antioxidant profile, improving heart health, and lowering your risk of cancer. It's also an amazing moisturizer for body and hair!

What happens when you add hemp? 

As we've learned, the cannabidiols in hemp bind with the endocannabinoid receptors that occur naturally in your body. Because of the inherent health benefits of olive oil, we think adding hemp makes it a Super Oil! Olive oil has natural anti inflammatory properties and so does hemp. When you combine the two? Say goodbye to muscle aches, joint pain and stiffness, and general inflammation. As we learned, hemp is also great at lowering anxiety and helping with insomnia. Adding that to the generally healthy benefits of olive oil, you should sleep better and feel better in the morning. 

Avocado Oil

I know avocados are good for you but what's the deal with the oil? 

While avocado oil seems like the latest craze, it's actually been around a whole lot longer than you or me. A 16th century historian, Bernabé Cobo, found people in the New World to be cooking with avocado oil. It was found to be a dietary staple in native communities. 16th century indigenous communities knew that avocados naturally benefitted hair, skin, eyes, helped treat wounds, relieved pain and inflammation. Avocado oil is actually derived from the pulp, the green squishy stuff, not the pit. It's best to use the extra-virgin, cold-pressed kind. This retains the most nutrients, whereas the conventional extraction process, which uses heat, loses the most nutrients. 

Uses

Avocado oil is a deep moisturizer, used in many creams and lotions. The naturally occurring nutrients in avocado oil help penetrate deep into the skin and boost lipid and collagen production, which improves overall skin health. It helps the skin recover after sun damage because it contains vitamin E, which is a big skin booster. Vitamin E helps firm, tighten, and promotes healthy skin regeneration. This healthy skin regeneration is particularly helpful for those with eczema, acne, or very oily skin. It deeply moisturizes without that oily finish. Becauses of its health benefits, it can also help reduce dandruff, fight inflammation, reduce symptoms of arthritis, lower your risk of heart disease, can increase the absorption of certain nutrients from food, and can help increase your metabolism to lose weight. 

What happens when CBD gets added to the mix? 

You can expect avocado oil to have a rich, nutty flavor. It may be more palatable than olive oil or glycerine, which can taste a little more earthy. Combined with the digestive and health powers of avocado oil, adding CBD to the mix can help increase nutrient absorption, help metabolism maintenance which helps with weight loss, and can reduce all-over inflammation so you feel and move better. Avocado oil is also a very popular topical, so use on your skin if you have eczema or acne! (If you're using as an acne treatment, make sure you leave it on overnight and wash it off in the morning so your pores don't get more clogged!)
